The Network is coordinated by the Umeå University, Sweden. The host of TEPE Annual Conference 2008 is the Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana. Almost 100 participants from 24 European countries (EU members as well as other countries) are expected to discuss various issues covered by the main title of the Conference: Teacher Education in Europe: mapping the landscape and looking to the future. - EIP Slovenia 2008 “School Quality through Partnerships among Teachers, Parents and Students Challenge for School Leadership”, 20th – 24th April 2008
Partnerships among teachers, parents and students have been widely recognised as essential in developing quality schools. They can be viewed as a powerful tool for sharing responsibility for student and school development and as a means of active participation in improvement of teaching and learning. However, effective partnerships have clear implications for school leadership. School leaders should understand the importance of such partnerships and thus provide opportunities for them to develop and to inform school policy. So they should encourage parents and students to participate in decisions in schools ant to share responsibility for their implementation with school staff. School leaders should promote different ways of students’ and parents’ involvement, open their schools to parents and to new ideas and support creative partnerships. During your visit to Slovenia you will have the opportunity to discuss how parents and students participate in schools through formal structures, how they influence school policy and escpecially how partnerships are created through less formal activities and events. You will discuss these issues with teachers, students and parents while school leaders will reflect on their role and their strategies in establishing collaborative partnerships will all stakeholders. - Meeting of the European Network on Teacher Education Policies ENTEP "Partnership and Research in Teacher Education for Innovation and Creativity", 8-10 May, Ljubljana, Faculty of Education University of Ljubljana
In the conclusions of the Council and of the Representatives of the Governments of the Member States on “Improving the Quality of Teacher education” (October 2007) Ministers consider that (...) «the education and training of teachers is a crucial element in the modernisation of European education and training systems, and future increases in the overall level of educational attainment (...) in order to enable teachers to adapt their teaching methods to the evolving needs of learners (...). In this overall effort many European countries are developing models of partnerships to involve all actors in the field of teacher education in a cooperative process and some countries (like Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Germany, also Slovenia) are already experiencing the positive effects and the innovative power of institutional partnerships. Especially the cooperation of teacher education institutions and schools including continuous professional development can help to bridge the often experienced gap between ‘theory’ and ‘practice’ and share research based knowledge and experience to enable each party to benefit from each other's work.
Partnerships between teacher education institutions and schools can contribute to the development of new knowledge and activate a collective learning and researching for new/innovative teaching approaches that respond to learner needs. The collaboration of the involved partners should not only focus on the education of student teachers, but also on the professional development of staff within schools, on curriculum innovation and the initiation and sharing of research results. A conference on this thematic field can be a rather challenging and inspiring event to exchange existing experience, share good practice or evolving practice, give impulses for next practice and promote mutual learning.
ENTEP Conference will also be an opportunity to follow-up the International Conference “Promoting Innovation and Creativity: Schools’ Response to the Challenges of Future Societies”, which will take part within the Slovenian Presidency of the EU 2008 in April 2008.

- Meeting of the Eurydice Restricted Working Group on the topic of decentralisation, 19-20 June, Ljubljana
Eurydice is a network of 35 national units which central concerns are to collect and exchange information on education systems and policies, to develop databases, to produce comparative studies and to draw up indicators. In 2006 several National Eurydice Units had reported increasing problems in collecting data due to an ongoing process of decentralisation in their education systems. Therefore, the European Unit established the Restricted Working Group dedicated to the topic of decentralisation in the field of education.
The RWG has been progressively developing a mapping of decentralisation to show who is responsible for the different areas in education in each Eurydice network country. This approach will support the process of data collection, as well as an external use, given that the network as a whole and the EEU are receiving more and more requests from the Commission and national users for information on the organisation of educational systems.
The RWG meets regularly once a year. In 2008, the meeting shall take place in Slovenia.
